Dr. S. Scott Tapper, MD, FACS, FSVS, is a double board-certified vascular and general surgeon and a nationally recognized leader in vascular surgery. He serves as Director of Vascular Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Martin Health and is a partner at Symmetry Vascular Center, where he is known for clinical excellence, innovation, and leadership in advancing vascular care.
Dr. Tapper is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the Society for Vascular Surgery (FSVS). He recently served as President of the Florida Vascular Society (2024–2025) and was recognized by Newsweek in 2024 as one of the nation’s Top 200 Vascular Surgeons, based on Medicare performance data and peer surveys.
He earned his undergraduate degree with Honors in Biology from Brown University and went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Tapper completed a six-year General Surgery Residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, including a year at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, Australia, where he gained extensive experience in vascular disease. He then completed a dedicated Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Vanderbilt.
Since relocating to Stuart, Florida in 1993, Dr. Tapper has been a pioneer in vascular surgery on the Treasure Coast. As the region’s first board-certified vascular surgeon, he introduced numerous “firsts,” including early adoption of stents for peripheral arterial disease, stent graft technology, and endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR). He has remained at the forefront of the specialty as vascular surgery has evolved toward minimally invasive techniques.
Dr. Tapper has extensive expertise in both open and endovascular procedures, including carotid endarterectomy, transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR), open and endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, and lower extremity revascularization. He has also been a leader in the treatment of venous disease in the region, performing the first ablation and microphlebectomy procedures for varicose veins, as well as venous stenting and advanced treatments for venous ulcers.
Today, Dr. Tapper continues to play a central role in building and mentoring a team of highly skilled surgeons at Symmetry Vascular Center, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation in patient care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Tapper and his wife enjoy golfing, traveling, and scuba diving. He also has a lifelong passion for photography, with several of his works displayed in the office.
